Coal Seam Gas on the Mountain

Farming and the rural lifestyle enjoyed by Mountain Districts residents are at risk over the coming years from Coal Seam Gas (CSG) extraction. Companies such as AGL currently hold Petroleum Exploration Licenses (PELs) over the entire Mountain District, including Mangrove Mountain, Peats Ridge, Kulnura and extending through Bucketty.

Should CSG extraction commence we will see our current community way of life and the environment we enjoy and productively use disrupted and transformed into an industrialised, gas extraction area. Extensive damage to the artesian water supplies we rely upon can be expected.

The time for the community to state our collective opinion on this situation and voice what we want for our future has begun. The Mountain Districts Association, with the support of the Lock The Gate Alliance, Hunter & Central Rivers Alliance and Our Land Our Water Our Future has already begun to mobilise to allow the community to voice its opinion and speak out against the proposed gas mining.

Stay tuned as all members of the community will be kept informed via the Community News, emails, letter drops and community meetings throughout.
